มา startx บน FreeBSD กันเถอะ
การใช้งาน FreeBSD เป็น Desktop ไม่ได้ยากอีกต่อไปแล้ว
เพราะทาง FreeBSD เขาจัดเตรียมมาให้ครบทุกอย่าง เพียง
แต่เราไม่คุ้นเคยเท่านั้น ในเมื่อเราใช้งานด้าน Server ได้เต็มที่
ตามที่เขามีให้ ผมก็อยากแนะนำให้เรามาใช้งานด้าน Desktop
ที่เขาจัดไว้ให้อย่างมากมาย แทบจะไม่แตกต่างจาก OS อื่นๆ
แล้วท่านจะหลงรัก FreeBSD เพิ่มขึ้นอีกเท่าตัว

สำหรับผู้เริ่มต้น ขอแนะนำขั้นตอนการติดตั้ง X-window ครับ
การติดตั้ง FreeBSD4.11 step by step
A.ใส่แผ่น CD เข้าเครื่องคอมพิวเตอร์
B.เปิดเครื่องคอมพิวเตอร์ โดยให้เครื่อง boot จาก CD
C.รอสักครู่ใหญ่ เครื่องคอมพิวเตอร์จะตรวจสอบระบบและเข้าสู่เมนูการติดตั้ง

1.Kernel Configuration Menu -----------> เลือก Skip kernel configuration and continue with installation กด Enter
2./stand/sysinstall Main Menu ---------> เลือก Standard , Select กด Enter
3.Message-In the next menu,you will need to set up a DOS-style("fdisk") ---> เลือก [OK] กด Enter
4.ถ้ามี partitions อื่นอยู่และไม่ต้องการ ให้เลื่อนแถบสว่างไปที่ partitions นั้นๆ กด D เพื่อลบออก
5.เลือก partitions unused กด C เพื่อสร้าง Slice
6.ระบุ ขนาด Slice ที่ต้องการ หรือ กด Enter เพื่อยอมรับขนาด Slice ที่ระบบกำหนดมาให้
7.ระบุ ประเภทของ Slice ตามต้องการ หรือ กด Enter เพื่อยอมรับประเภทของ Slice ที่ระบบกำหนดมาให้ (FreeBSD=165)
8.กด Q เมื่อดำเนินการเสร็จเรียบร้อย
9.Install Boot Manager for drive ---> เลือก Standard ถ้าในเครื่องมี FreeBSD เพียง OS เดียว
10.Message-Now,you need to create BSD partitions inside of the fdisk --> เลือก [OK] กด Enter
11.FreeBSD Disklabel Editor ---> กด A เพื่อให้ระบบจัดการแบ่งพื้นที่การใช้งานให้อัตโนมัติ กด Q Finish
12.Choose Distributions ---> เลือก
- 5 X-Developer(เพื่อติดตั้ง x-window), [OK] กด Enter
13.User Confirmation Requested ---> ยืนยันการติดตั้ง ports collection เลือก [Yes] กด Enter
14.Choose Distributions ---> เลือก <<< x Exit , [OK] กด Enter เพื่อเข้าสู่เมนูอื่นต่อไป
15.Choose Installation Media ---> เลือก 1. CD/DVD , [OK] กด Enter
16.User Confirmation Requested Last Chance! โอกาสสุดท้าย เลือก [Yes] กด Enter
17.Message Congratulations! เลือก [OK] กด Enter
18.User Confirmation Requested ---> เพื่อติดตั้ง Lan Card เลือก [Yes] กด Enter
19.Network interface information required ---> ระบบ จะเลือก Land Card ให้มาเอง เลือกรายการแรก กด Enter
20.User Confirmation Requested-Do you want to try IPv6 configuration of the interface? ---> เลือก [No] กด Enter
21.User Confirmation Requested-Do you want to try DHCP configuration of the interface? ---> เลือก [No] กด Enter
22.Network Configuration ---> ให้ระบุ ชื่อข้อมูลให้ครบถ้วน
23.Host---------------> ชื่อเครื่อง เช่น mycomp.compay.com
24.Domain-------------> ชื่อDomain เช่น company.com
25.IPv4 Gateway ------> ระบุ ip-address ของเครื่อง Gateway เช่น 192.168.1.1
26.Name server -------> ระบุ ip-address ของเครื่องที่ทำหน้าที่ DNS เช่น 192.168.1.2
27.IPv4 Address ------> ระบุ ip-address ของเครื่องตนเองที่กำลังติดตั้ง FreeBSD เช่น 192.168.1.10
28.Netmarsk ----------> เอาตามที่ระบบกำหนดให้ หรือ ระบุเอง เช่น 255.255.255.0
29.Extra options to ifconfig ----> ปล่อยว่างไว้
แก้ไขและตรวจสอบให้ถูกต้อง เลือก [OK] กด Enter
30.User Confirmation Requested-Would you like to Bring Up the ??? interface right now? --> เลือก [Yes] กด Enter

62.Monitor configuration ---> เลือก Edit Monitor0 , [OK] กด Enter
63.Monitor HorizSync ---> เลือกให้สอดคล้องกับ จอภาพ เช่น 31.5 - 48.5; Non-Interlaced SVGA, 1-24x768 @60 Hz, 800x600 @ 72 Hz , [Next >>] กด Enter
64.Monitor VertRefresh ---> เลือก ให้สอดคล้องกับ จอภาพ เช่น 50 - 100 , [Finish] กด Enter
65.Main menu ---> เลือก Configure card , [OK] กด Enter
66.Card configuration ---> เลือก Edit Card0 , [OK] กด Enter
67.Card configurtion ---> เลือก [Yes] กด Enter
68.Card database ---> เลือกให้ตรงกับ VGA Card ของเครื่อง เช่น sis SIS6326/AGP/DVD , [Next >>] กด Enter
69.Card driver ---> เลือกให้ตรงกับ VGA Card ของเครื่อง เช่น sis , [OK] กด Enter
70.Card BusID ---> ไม่จำเป็นต้องระบุ ปล่อยว่างไว้ เลือก [Finish] กด Enter
71.Main menu ---> เลือก Configure screen , [OK] กด Enter
72.Screen configuration ---> เลือก Edit Screen0 , [OK] กด Enter
73.Screen Depth ---> เลือกตามต้องการ เช่น 16 bits, 65Kb colors , [Next >>] กด Enter
74.Screen modes ---> เลือกตามต้องการ เช่น [ X ] 1024x768 , [Finish] กด Enter
75.Main menu ---> เลือก Configure layout , [OK] กด Enter
76.Layout configuration ---> เลือก Edit Layout0 , [OK] กด Enter
77.Layout configuration ---> เลือก [Finish] กด Enter
78.Main menu ---> เลือก Write XF86Config and quit , [OK] กด Enter
79.Write XF86Config ---> ระบุ ชื่อไฟล์และ path ให้ถูกต้อง ปกติก็ยอมรับตามที่ระบบแจ้ง เลือก [OK] กด Enter
80.Please select the default X desktop to use.---> เลือกตามใจชอบ แนะนำ 3 GNOME 2 , [OK] กด Enter
81.User Confirmation Requested-....Would you like to browse the collection now? ---> เลือก [No] กด Enter
82.User Confirmation Requested-Would you like to add any initial user accounts to the system? ---> เลือก [Yes] กด Enter
83.User and group management ---> เลือก User Add a new user to the system , [OK] กด Enter
84.User and Group Management ---> ระบุข้อมูลให้ครบ
85.Login ID -------------> ระบุชื่อ user ที่ต้องการ เช่น staff
86.UID ------------------> ยอมรับตามที่ระบบระบุให้
87.Group ----------------> ระบุหรือจะเว้นไว้ก็ได้
88.Password -------------> ระบุรหัสผ่านที่ต้องการ
89.Full name ------------> ระบุชื่อจริงของผู้ใช้เครื่อง
90.Member groups --------> ระบุตามต้องการ ถ้าต้องการมีสิทธิ์เท่าเทียม root ให้ระบุเป็น wheel
91.Home directory -------> ยอมรับตามที่ระบบระบุ
92.Login shell ----------> ยอมรับตามที่ระบบระบุ หรือ จะเปลี่ยนแปลงตามชอบ
ตรวจสอบ แก้ไขให้ ถูกต้อง เลือก [OK] กด Enter
93.User and group management ---> เลือก X Exit , [OK] กด Enter
94.Message Now you must set the system manager's password...-> เลือก [OK] กด Enter
95.Changing local password for root

98.User Confirmation Requested - Visit the general configuration menu for a chance to set any last option ---> เลือก [No] กด Enter
